Activities
ACDA
The student chapter of ACDA exists to develop awareness, appreciation and understanding of choral music. Students are encouraged to attend state, divisional and national conferences of ACDA to form networks with peers and recognized authorities in the choral world.
NAfME (formerly known as MENC)
The National Association for Music Education is the largest Music Education organization in the world. Our MENC Collegiate association is the professional membership for future music educators. Our members receive the national journals Music Educators Journal and Teaching Music; may attend national, division and state conferences; and have access to all MENC Resources. In addition, our students participate in regular meetings, have music educators share regular music lessons with us, attend Mississippi Sings each fall, actively participate in the MS MMEA/ACDA Conference each spring, and perform community service throughout the year.
Honors Recital
An Honors Recital is presented biennially by the Department of Music. Honors recital participants are nominated by their professors and selected in the fall by audition for a panel of judges. It is the desire of the music faculty to offer this event in order to provide students an opportunity to perform with orchestra during their undergraduate or graduate years.
